Labbing 25p mirages
I'd like to gain more speed by getting my props labbed. They are 25P mirages pushed by twin 454 mags (1.5 geared bravo 1) on a 6500 lbs 30' scarab. These props let the engines rev to 5000rpm, just where I prefer. Most threads I've read on labbing say to expect an additional 200-400 rpm with labbing. Therefore to stay in the 5000rpm range, I would need 27 pitch props labbed? Sound right? Do you think I could have my 25p props re-pitched to the 27 during labbing? Any advise would be great.

blue thunder,
I have the same exact problem. I would like to get my 25P Mirage Plus 3-blades labbed but they already push my 454 Mags to about 4,950 rpm's. I talked to York Propellers who suggested I move to labbed 26P Bravo I 4-blades. That's nice, however I don't want to spend that sort of cash. If we could get these props up a pitch or two and labbed that would be the best scenario. Let me know what you find out?

Advantage... I'm sure we could repitch to 26, but unsure about 27. Did they give you a estimated cost on the setup they recommended? What are you running for boat?

Don't go with the 4 blade prop unless you have problems with blowout on turns or getting onto plane. The 4 blade prop will be 2 to 3 mph slower than a 3 blader. I have heard that it isn't wise to repitch a prop because it will tend to return to the original pitch. The labbed 27 should turn about the same rpm as the 25's you have now. I run labbed 26 bravo 1's at 5400 rpm on a 34 scarab.

You can get them repitched to 26's, but I dont think 27's. I had 23's repitched to 24's. The difference....2-3 mph gain, with no rpm gain. When you go up 1 pitch, you lose 200 rpms, when you lab, you usually gain that back.

blue thunder, I run a 1999 29' Baja Outlaw with twin 454 Mags. I would be very interested in moving up to a 26 pitch labbed 3-blade Mirage Plus. Have you found out any additional information? Chad Hill or York Propellers will probably be our best most inexpensive option.

Advantage... I haven't learned anything more. I was thinking about buying the set of 25p mirages in the classifieds and getting them labbed. That way I could alway go back the the 25 mirages I currently run. Sounds like it would be best for us to find 26s or 27s and have them labbed. Anyone have anything available?

blue thunder, are you not comfortable with re-pitching your 25's to 26's with a lab job? Have you talked with any professionals who advise you to buy a second set of 25's? Thanks for the information.
