Finally getting started on the 598"!!
It has been on the stand for a few weeks now and I finally have time to get busy assembling. Got it painted with some black engine paint.

Filing the rings!!
Ya gotta love that Proform ring file. Super accurate and parallel!! Set the top at .024", the second at .026", and the oil ring rails at .017" Next step is to wash and start double checking bearing clearances!!!

Hey Foul,
I haven't sold the Baja yet, nor have I got a new boat. I am still planning on a small cat in the 22' to 25' range. I would think a 22 Daytona should do triple digits with this 598" and hopefully accelerate as well as my Baja. I will get serious about selling the Baja toward spring and then I will see what is available. Have you sold yours?
Later,
Craig

I don't understand the lifter debris catcher.
Also, noticing not much room between cyls. for the head gaskets. Will that require o-rings or will standard gaskets work in that situation? Just curious.

US1,
Standard head gaskets are fine on BigM blocks @ 4.600" bore. I am using Cometic gaskets and will also be using the 4 extra head bolts that are available with these blocks. The max bore is published at 4.625, but I have actually heard of people even going slightly larger. The picture really makes the space between the bores look smaller than it really is.

As for the debris screen, I have seen them in catalogs, but never used one before. I know drag racers use the regularly. It helps keep any valvetrain shavings or in a worst case scenario broken parts from getting onto the cam or going through the rest of the motor. It looks cool, but lets hope it is never needed for its intended use!!
