Including the new $6k trailer, and $8k in SSM rebuild receipts, I'd part with the boat 'as is' for $20k firm. But I need to do it fast, otherwise the new engines go in asap.

Anyone interested should call me on my cell in NY at 914.473.3014.

I'm running an '86 10-meter with HP500 carb motors, IMCO Powerflows, TRS with nose cones, Hubers, Hydro 28's. Tops out just shy of 80mph in fresh water.

IMHO, the HP500 carb motors fill a "sweet spot" with decent performance at a reasonable price. The HP500's are conservatively built from Merc Racing, with mild cams and fat carb jetting, and still have decent internals to keep reliability up - Crane roller hyd valve train, JE pistons, etc.

So you question is - do you pick up some 7-10k HP500's and drop them in, or find a reputable engine builder to put together a pair of 540's? And at what cost? Maybe 10k, probably more.

20k "as-is" sounds like a reasonable price. I'd also like to see some pictures. What kind of trailer is it sitting on?

Good luck,
Brian

Guys - thanks for all your input. After talking engines with Bullet and 1800runsasnew plus the guy installing them, there's no question that if I planned to keep this boat indefinately, tinker and reach for the power heavens, the 540's are the ticket.

However, unless someone wants to buy this boat 'as is' by next Tuesday, the plan is to install reconditioned/warranted, carburated and bullet-proof Merc 502/500hp's, reusing a virtually new set of IMCO exhausts, MSD ignitions, Dart high rise intakes and my Holley 850's. I haven't had time to use this boat in three years and doubt things will change much. Its a shame because she's really a terrific boat and because of the original turbo's, she has a high x-factor, SSM's and handles like a Porsche.

FYI - the trailer is a 3x axle aluminum (12k# towing weight) 'Performance' trailer. She's presently awaiting surgery in NY near West Point if anyone is interested. $20k can have her this weekend, after that, she'll be repowered and probably on my balance sheet for a while.

Give us a call, or check out our website. We can help you with the power for your boat. Check out the 525's and 575 HP's. Both come with one year warranty and are avaiable in EFI or Carb.

Thanks,
