where do you find a ''496'' kit and what parts and work does it involve?

The thread just won't die!!

I've been there done that. 2000 7.4 MPI. Most of the more valuable salvagable parts have been used in another motor, I still have a few pieces and the rest are in a scrap heap. I now have a 540 which is where money for more power should have gone in the first place.

talk to speedomotive out in ca- you can find them in most mags(car), anyway, you can get the crank and pistons for prob around 800$- you still need the other basic parts for a rebuild- but this way you are not increasing rpm- which shotens engine life- and- you gain torque and there is no loss at all in reliability- no blower probs or hi rpm usage where you really create problems- and you can use your block

I started my project with a stock 330HP 7.4L. And my advice is to scrap nearly everything on the engine exept for the block itself. If you up the HP on that engine you will soon find yourself with crankshaft issues. I broke mine in two after installing a bigger cam and have some headwork done. My latest project was replacing the penut ports with a set of large oval 820's with 1.88 & 2.19 valves with a good port job. After this nothing will be stock but the block.

Well Jim, there are lots of guys out there with low output 454s that don't have the $$ to build a bigger engine.

I've got an extra set of L-29 large oval intake port heads for $300 if anyone is interested.
Bolt them in place of the peanut port heads on a Gen V low output 454 and gain 30+HP.

I'll see your oval port heads and 30 horsepower for $300, and raise a pair of gev V heavily ported peanut heads port matched to oval port performer rpm manifold with 2.19/1.88 valves with roller springs at 160# and 10* retainers and locks for 60+ horsepower for $900 which includes the manifold.

Can you tell we're bored up here where its cold????? And it's three more months till the ice melts!!!!!

I have a 96' 7.4L with a carb looking for some more horse power. Would your heads and intake be a direct replacement for mine. Would this also add some RPM? Is there anything else I'd have to add or replace. I'm very interested in gaining some speed. My email is [email protected]. I can call to if that would be easier. Thanks.

This is what I did to 7.4 gen V in April 06 picked up 900rpm on top #336781 gm large oval port heads 118cc ported and flowed 2.19/1.88 10degree retainers and locks crane gold roller rockers, comp springs, crane 3/8 pushrods, crane 132561 cam and lifters crane billet timing chain, bottom end balance and bored .030 domed pistons comp 8.79-1. Eldelbrock air-gap intake and 750 marine carb, revolution marine exhaust hardin marine valve covers k&n air filter. I run a labbed bravo 1 24 pitch prop gained 900rpm on top end. Runnning th stock 330hp oil cooler temps no hotter than 220 also melling high volume pump, all bolts arp it runs good. I was planning this project for several years I bought carb and intake first. Then I bought the exhuast and a new lower unit. Then in april i did the motor.
