Marine Tek

Will this stuff adhere to a bare flat aluminum drive skeg?

Just replaced my skegs and have a couple of low spots at the welds. Just curious if this stuff adheres to flat surfaces or does it need to be held in by voids? Will it work as a filler for the low spots?

Marine tex will do the job, sand with 80 are 100 grit, then clean with acetone, wipe dry with clean paper towel ,then apply. the grey marine tex works a little better on metals than the white does, check out http://www.marinetex.com/

If you're going to paint over it, sand it first. I read somewhere, that when epoxy cures, the surface oxidizes or something, and paint won't stick well. I think I read it in the instructions that came with my Hydromotive nosecone.

I have used Marine Tex for several things over the years. It always works very well. I highly recommend it as well.

I used it on my drive sked. Glued on the lower tip. Lasted 2 years than fell off.

That chit is like cement

Liberator21,

I keep my boat at Al Grovers High and Dry in Freeport. So, I mostly stay on the south shore. How about you, which side are you on?

I had a 2 inch by 2 inch corner missing off the trailing edege of one skeg. Building up slowly I reconstucted the corner from marine tex. It lasted one season so far and after what it went through last year don't expect to see a problem. Love that chit!

I boat mostly on the north shore, but I'll drop in at the freeport boat ramp once in a while.

I used Marine Tex to fix a corroded gasket surface on a 74 Vega that kept blowing head gaskets. I drove it a couple of years then sold the car. That stuff's great!
