Taking the hook out!!
I have read that on the 26ft Scarab that taking out the slight hook in the pad will help the top speed.
I have a 1988 28ft Scarab Excel which is the same bottom design and shares the same slight hook.
Should I just sand the area with 200 grit paper and fill the hook with gelcoat??

homan,
I run a 550hp 502, the boat runs about 75mph.
I'm turning a labbed 25 pitch Mirage "plus" at between 52-5300 depending on the temp humidity etc.

TomR I'm over on Nantucket in the season I have a '81 26' wellcraft . I'm in the middle of a rebuild project. I stripped out every thing, motor, trans, drive Arneson #6. I'm going to try to keep it as light as possible .so I've bought a HP 350S/B to start of with. If all goes well what is happening with small cubes and BIG TURBOS is VERY interesting . Seems like you can have huge power with 200 to 300 lbs off the ass end of the hull. Anyway I took the hook out of my hull ,but I havent tried it out yet . so if you do the same we'll both find out. I have a Yamaha GP 1200 slightly hopped up. Anyway that thing porpoised so bad it drove me nuts. I tried every suggestion I got,new scoop, different ride plate, new sponsons on & on. Then aguy told me to get a grinder and to make the edges of the strakes and the back edge [bottom/transom] as sharp as possible. So I did that and it is'nt pretty BUT, NO MORE PORPOISING. I hope this follows thru on a26' hull as well as it worked on a10' hull. Any other opinions out ther on this hull??? andrewmasonsr

Is this Family & Performance Boating magazine available in any bookstores? I could subscribe but would probably not get the issue with this Scarab hook article.

Roby,
I have looked in every bookstore and many Drug Stores in my town. I have not found it. If someone comes up with it could it be shared without copyright problems?
