I keep my boat at lost peninsula in the summer,
red, white and black excalibur.
if you are who I think you are I still owe you a fuel filter!from the summer LEOPA Poker run. you have a black and grey Scorpion? I believe Iwas there in rossford this summer in my boat with Chris Lawson ,I think It was a "Foggy" Night that night!

the motor 454 gen 4 365hp (heads,cam, pistons) proped
with a 3 blade stanless 19 pitch turning 4500 rpms 3 people on board 30 gal gas gps said 59.0 but it was alittle slow to get on plane . i was wondering about a four blade , or do i have to change the gears in the alpha to get more ,or is this what i should expect?i think the rpms are low? but droping in pitch to get more rpms also drops speed right? i have also heard BB and alpha are not the best combination ,but ok as long as you dont hammer it. thanks for the info

4 blades, alphas, and big blocks do NOT mix. You WILL have issues with the drive, light boat or not. Been there, done that, re-built the alpha, blew it up, bought a Bravo 1. Hole shots are a NO NO with your combination.

I ran a 22 velocity with 454 and Alpha 1.36. Best prop for hole shot is 3 blade Land and Sea Torque shift. Starts at around a 11'pitch and you cand adjust Pitch stop screw for where you want it to stop goes to like 28". Pitch changes with trim. Invest in their pitch gage. Your boat will leap onto plane. I ran this combination on my Velocity for four years. Never ate an Alpha. Great water ski prop. Got two less mph on top end best ran was 69 mph with Torque shift. Need a nose cone with the old Alphas though. With out it can get past 65mph. Torque shift get's you there in a hurry. Great prop in turns it will not blow out and it is smooth shifting. I believe I found the x cams were best. Still have some G an H cams if you go with the prop.

glassdave - no problem on the "over shadow" thing. I did'nt see it that way at all. I'm still a newbie at performance boating so I feel fortunate to be able to listen to all. Just got a little twinge when pc mentioned 454, hole shot and Alpha all in the same sentence . I've heard that an Alpha will handle a BB too, but should be careful.
pcgarret - 454, 19 inch 3 blade, at 4500 rpm's, 59 mph? A 454 365 hp should be doing much more than that. Did you mis print some of the info? Also, you might wanna read post 14 from Waterfoul.

this is not a miss print: 19 pitch 4500 , 17 pitch 4800 rpm , lost 6 mph . would retest right now but they drain the lake's down here in nov don't know why it's 58 no problem. i guess the problem is don't know what to expect, most of my boating has been with smaller less powerful boats (4&6 cyl) runabouts. althouth i did have a few v8,s mostly 302,s with 888 drives 45mph stock
