Default wire harness question.

how are the aftermarket engine builders wiring there engines. many advertise and bolt in and go. do they use a mercruiser engine wire harness that plugs into the forward harness for gauges and ignition and such or do you have to rewire every thing? if i were to build a motor can i purchase and engine wire harness that will plug into my current wire harness.

The male and female parts are available from mercruiser. I received a wiring diagram with mine... message back if you need the diagram.. I can probably dig mine up.. I tend to save technical paperwork.

Which side are you looking for ? the male side or the female side? I have two pig tails that are left over from buying mercruiser harnesses. I can part with them if you need them. They are the female ends that would normally go with the engine.

Dave,

I think the answer you are looking for is yes, the engine builders use a standard engine harness that will plug right into your boat harness.

How's things down there? Going to Miami?..If so, I'll see you at the party

Kurt

ps. do you ever run into Dennis, the guy I bought my TG from?

Reed J, I am making my own harness and need the engine harness plug. Let me know what you need for one of yours if you still want to part with one.

Thanks, Todd Howerton

I adapted a wiring harness from a 454 mag. It was pretty close to a perfect fit. Next time, I'll proably make my own.

Wire harness color codes are pretty much standard now. Red + Blk- ,purple power to guages and + to coil, Gray is tach, yellow/red starter solenoid, tan is temp, tan/blue is alarm, light blue is oil.
