My crate 502s came with eight quart marine oil pans. The pans did not clear the engine mount plates. I bought 6 quart pans my local chevy dealer that would fit the mount plates. It turned out the main bearing bolts are extra long to hold the 8 quart oil baffles and the six quart pan would not fit on the engine. I had to go back to the dealer to by a shorter oil baffle and shorter main bearing bolts in order to make the pan fit.
Check for oil pan clearance and be prepared to make main bearing bolt and oil baffle changes.
Anybody need some 8 quart oil pans?

Powerguy,
My engine guy found a used Mercruiser warranty replacement engine. Very low hours on it. It had 1 bad piston. Ended up replacing 2 more that did not look perfect. We also blueprinted and balanced the crank, new Clevite H series rod and main bearings, new lifters, new roller timing chain, new oil pump, a bowl port job on the heads, touched up the valves, shimmed the springs, new Hastings ductile iron rings and Fel-Pro marine gaskets. Including the used flywheel and intake manifold I had $4050.00 in it, parts and labor.
The Gen V blocks are the same on the outside. Everything from the 7.4L bolted right on to the 502.
Good luck,
