Default Hydraulic Steering

Hi
I am thinking about a Hydraulic Steering and my question. In a hydraulic system do I use the servo pump of the old system or do I need no pump has the pump in the helm enough power?
thank you

On a typical Stern drive application the power steering pump is still used. On some Outboard applications the unit creates its own pressure.
