best supercharger for 496ho?

I think you may be better off pulling the entire unit and either selling it or holding it for when you sell the boat and go with a race prepped 540 ci with a whipple EFI system. 900hp is a breeze with good idle characteristics. Will cost more initially, but probably save you more in the long run.
If you insist on keeping what you have, go with the Whipple. The service is great as is the product.

Check Powerboat Mag
They had a comparison on 2 systems on a 496. I think in 2003 or 2002. Good article.
The 540 route is many $ plus you have to be concerned about driveline life w/ a Bravo.

Everyone always hates to hear pull your engine and put in a new one, but consider this: You can sell your engine for $8-$10K, which will get you a nice long block. Past that you are planning on buying a blower, so take your pick. Dustin has the programs ready to go on a 509, 540, etc. Only mention it because I have been there. In the end you will have to upgrade the drive ($9K) regardless of your choice and if you plan on running poker runs or extended high speed runs you will have to upgrade the fuel and water system to braided race lines ($3K), the oil cooler, pump and oil lines $1,500. The next problem will be preventing head gasket leaks, so now you are back to a new race prepped engine, only this time you have to buy a higher capacity fuel pump and injectors.
Then again you may be just fine with the 496 BTW, what is it going into?

Procharger & Whipple
I have the 5lb Procharger Kit w/new injectors and Whipple 555 ecm stage 2 programing and also had them remove the high limit switch for my map sensor. Gained 4 prop sizes and 11 mph.

I ran Chris' whippled 496 a couple of weekends ago and it was very nice dialed in package, much better than the old 502 side mounts. I bought the motor and dropped it into my 28 eagle, I'll let you know how it runs once the ice melts off the lake.
