i'm curious. impellers's are 20 bucks brand new from merc. they take 15 minutes to change. why wouldn't you just put a new one in every couple years or couple hundred hours like changing your oil or something ? why all this heartache over a nickle and dime part ? and you solve the " run dry " problem very simply.... don't run it dry. or if you have your head up your butt some day and do, you spend 20 bucks and 15 minutes and change it....

i don't see the big deal here. this sounds like the " i can get 203 shaves from my razor blade " days

THE BLUE IMPELLER ALLOWS FOR AN ALMOST UNLIMITIED NUMBER OF RUN DRY TIME SLICES OVER THE LIFE OF THE PART

THE 15MINUTE CLAIM IS A CONTINUOUS MEASURE FOR BENCHMARKING

What happens to the plastic housing atfter 5-10 minutes? Would it not be scored from the heat and ruined?

Where is it we can get the blue ones again? I haven't visited this thought in awhile.

I don't "think" they make blue impellors for 496's . . . .

All I know is there has to be something better. I am on water pump number six this year. I have low water pick-ups; unfortunately, the water has been real low

Everytime, the housing has needed to be changed! A couple of the impellers looked perfect, but the end of the housing was scored. That end needs to definitely seal or the pump will not prime! I am tired of replacing $100 housings when the impeller is supposed to be the sacrificial part.

And 15 min change time... Not sure what boat that's on, but it must be wide open for access to the pump. Most are, at best, a chore...if not deserving of a severe cussing to the builder who would not think ahead about serviceability.
