I have had blown boat motors since the early 80's. I have used many different heads. When ever I had a head problem most time I had other problems (holes in pistons) to go along with the heads. Detonation can tear a motor up quickly. I have gotten over 150 hrs before I have taken heads off & done a valve job.

I am in my 3rd year with the Crane 741 cam & no problems to date.

Maybe I should have started a thread like:
"What color is your Kitty Cat?"
That's probably because the majority of people don't have blowers, but like you, are interested in the subject for the future.

BTW, I don't have a cat either.

cuda,
You are probably right.
I'm sure that there are a lot of people out there
in OSO land who would really like to get valuable
information about blower setups.
Speekup guys!!

I don't have a pet but my girlfriend has a really
cute ol' rottie!!!

I have the "088" heads with Ferrea valves, Isky springs, Crane 741 cam, and B&M 250 with 4-5# of boost..

I pulled both sets of heads and am having them re-worked with 250 hours. On the first set they found that the valve guides were getting sloppy, and one valve would not re-seat. The springs were fine. I'm picking up the second set later this week - I don't know what they found with them yet.

Hope this helps...

Beak Boater,

What type of power are you getting with the 540 / Whipple set up? How much compression? I am interested in possibly building a similar setup. Are you happy with the whipples? Intercoolers?

Do tell.
