Hydro,
I couldn't agree more. I think I can just flip my remote mount over and start using the taller filters with an ADVP valve (no drain valve built into most filters) so they don't drain dry and aggravate an already dry start.
Any thoughts/comments on this, can I just flip my 1996 remote 502 Mag filter over so the filter is pointing up? It is all sealed, should work fine I would think.
Thanks very much,
SL

Good post on oil filters, but remember to check the real testing and inspection reviews on the filters on another previous post. Some different brands are built by a few of the same companies and don't test or examine well. We have personally cut open quite a few and were shocked at how poorly and cheaply some were made. I will refrain from naming names but one especially will have you "paying now and paying later"! Very rare that boating conditions will ever overload a filters capacity unless something inside the motor is comming apart slowly, you are running in horrible condtions or you change your oil every couple of years! The most imprtant thing in a boat is change your oil often. Oil is relativly cheap versus rebuilding a motor. Save your money! Change your oil often!!
Just some thoughts by someone who has seen a lot of motors on the inside.

You don't remember the commercial where the mechanic is saying "You can pay me now, or you can pay me later!" FRAM, FRAM, FRAM.

Frams are very cheaply built, they often twist apart when you try to remove them. The side walls are very thin. I used to have to pound a long nail all the way thru to get them to spin off. Then I used different brand.

You can add Purolator Pure One PL36461 to the list. It has the silicone anti-drain back to keep oil in the filter for those mounted upside down. Plus they're a cool look'n blue...

What about the fram hp series of race filters? I have been running the hp-4 race filter(it fits my aftermarket adapter,i'm unsure if it's the right one for stock part #'s) and have never had a problem, they have big oil holes thru return side,a hd shell that's about impossible to crush and supposedly a high flow filter media?
