Post ADDING DRIVE TRIM TO THROTTLE LEVERS

I want to add a trim switch (eddie marine )to one of my throttle levers. I have the merc./keikeffer ones (two)on a 91' 311 formula. To trim out-drives now there is a trim switch for each drive , and you have to remove hand from throttles and press both switches at the same time.(very ackwards). I need to know which switch to use (they sell one for graffig or morse) . and I'll want to use just one switch to operate both drives.

My gaffrig is hooked up to have only one switch operate both drives. There are a few diodes wired in where the rocker switches are to prevent feed through. The new switch wires in there too.

Wes, I also had the dual Kiek shifters with no in handle trim. I added the switch that mounts in the handle knob itself, just like the factory levers w/trim. Ordered the parts from Merc.parts online. right around $100 for all parts and diodes.
You run each trim switch wire into the single diode inlet, which in turn split with 2 outlets that go to the original dual dash switches. This will allow you to trim both outdrives(or in my case, both trim tabs) at same time with 1 switch, but also allow you to trim independently from the original dual dash switches. You can also just use the single Eddie Marine or Gaffrig lever mounted switch if you chose that route, but will still need to purchase 2 diode assemblies. I for up, 1 for down.

Wes,
individual parts: 2,3,4,5,6, & both #9's. I used my original lever and just drilled a hole in it for the wires to come from switch in handle and then bent a peice if 1/4 ss tubing to run down the handle to confine the wires. Or you could also just use shrink tube for the wires. I just happen to like the factory look.
Of if you do go with the clamp on units, just buy the 2 diode pt.#'s 9.

Yes, they are both the same thing. However one is in green wire color, other is in blue. This is the color coding that Merc uses for the different operations. 1 for up circuit, 1 for down. If you look under your dash at the trim switches, this will be self expainitory. A wire diagram does not come with, but if your are somewhat electronically inclined, you will understand it easily.
