Prop question
At one of the last poker runs I spoke with someone who told me that if you cut off the flange on the end of a Bravo-1 you will pick up one hundred RPMs.
Has anybody heard this or tried it? Sounds like a cheap mile per hour gain...

I have heard of that. Never tried it. The whole thing surrounded Hydromotive and the fact that they left the flair ring off their props. If you had problems blowing out, you could then add the ring back on later. At high speeds, I didn't think the ring had a whole lot of play in the way the prop worked. Hydromotive is now including the flair ring in their castings.

If the boat planes off well now or if the boat owner doesn't mind some prop slip while getting on plane cutting off some or all of the flare is a common modification. If the flare ring is removed you may see a speed increase of 3/4 mph at wide open throttle.
