Sea Strainers????????

Can I run a sea strainer in between a stock Bravo 1 and a 500 efi sea water pump?

Or better yet, does the Bravo 1 need water through the drive to cool it or can I bypass the drive and use offshore pickups?

I want to avoid some of the sand pickup problems I'm having with low water pickups.

Avoid shallow water to rid sand problem

You can bypass the drive and use other pickups; the water running thru the drive does however have a cooling effect how much or how important I'm not sure. I ran the drive water thru a dump in the transom and pretended I had intercoolers.

The water is low everywhere in the west now.

Just trying to give myself a little more insurance.

I cut the hose in the transom assy with hose cutters. The water flows thru and cools the drive. I'd run thru hulls on everything incl alpha. I leave the alpha impellor in and cut the hose to cool drive. With this a seawater pump and related brackets and plumbing is necessary. Due to areas like mine with seaweed, I use a wedge strainer and a groco 1 and 1/4" basket strainer also. With 500 + horsies you should probably go to 1 and 1/2" thru hull and related components to insure adequate H20 flow... BBB
