preventive maintenence merc 454 ignitoin

1988 thunder bolt IV ignition. what should i look at in the distributor besides cap and rotor? i mean what can go south and leave one stranded. are there any modules in there that need changing? thanks in advance!

If the pick up is original, I would definetly change it. It is not an expensive part, but it will leave you stranded.
