Crossover Advice

I'm running 454's equipped with crossovers instead of the GM waterpump. I currently do not have stats in so the motors run way to cool. I'm told that drilling three
1/8" holes in the stat will keep the pressure down to a tolerable level. I want to increase engine temp but don't want to increase headaches. Looking for any input

Thanks

Do your crossovers have bypasses?
