New oil filter study released

If you are running the larger 51060, you are probably OK. If you are running the shorter WIX 51086, you may want to try something else.

So, is it better to have more flow and less filtering capability, or vice-versa? I would think that flow would be more important in a marine environment, especially when you consider that boats usually don't go as long between oil changes as cars do.

Also, seems like I read on this site in the past that the WIX filters have the synthetic filtering media. It was mentioned that this is better in a marine environment because the non-synthetic media clog up if any water is introduced into the oil. Neither the Wix that was tested OR the Merc have the synthetic media - interesting. Anyone care to comment?

I believe the 932 is the 2 quart version of the 1218. I wanted to stay apples and apples as much as possible. Besides, I don't have the room for the 932 in my boat

Let me know if I read the study right. It appears to me that the Premium Purolator (not PureOne) has good filtering capabilities, and excellent flow. That seems to be the only one that has both, and would be the best choice?
