Default Question for the prop guru's

The new stepped sunsation 288 hull seems to require a very minute amount of trim to achieve optimal speed, Right around 1/4 on the livorsi drive indicator, or else it will rooster tail and slip.. I experimented with various trim settings while watching the gps speed very closely to determine this.

I have 2 props,, the stock 26 B1 and a labbed 26 B1.. The question is neither prop seems to carry the bow very well,,, but then what do I know, maybe this is exactly how the boat was designed to run ???. I know this isn't my old baja,, but I used to be able to play with the trim and watch the bow come up and down and listen to the motor to achieve ideal trim and speed...

Anyway, the labbed 26 pegs the rev limiter, so I need to have an inch of pitch added to it to achieve ideal RPM's, that should put me right around 5,000 @ WFOT. BUT,,, while i'm at it i'm wondering if I should be adding some cup to carry the nose better...

Specs...

05 288
496 H.O.

stock 26 B1 runs 4,900 rpm
labbed 26 B1 runs 5,200 rpm

labbed prop was labbed by merc. and bought used. was told it was thinned and had some cup removed, was originally for a 29 super-boat..

any help would be appreciated.. thanks Chris

What speed were you running with each prop and how did each do--getting on plane, mid range, cruise and top end?

Marty,, have 7 hours on the motor and didn't want to run the hell out of it,, but here goes...

stock 26 4,900 @ 68-69 mph slips a litte getting on plane no big deal...

labbed 26 5,200 @ 70's slips a little more but still no problem with full gas and 5 people..

I looks to me like you are about there with what you have. It really depends on which you want to run-- a $500 prop or a $1000 labbed prop. Maybe the prop tuner guys will chime in, but I would put the money towards gas, beer, whipple charger, in that order.

Yup,, pretty close,, I know I need to add an inch of pitch to the labbed to get the R's down just need to know if I should have some cup added while i'm at it.. that the main question..

Chris if it has been labbed,by Merc it could probably use a little cupping.

Thanks Darin,, just trying to get my exact bearings before I pull the trigger and have the labbed re-worked for my exact application..

Chris288,

Thru the process of labbing it is common to see the cup cut out of the props. It can affect the way the boat carries, including the bow. It is possible to increase the bow lift by adding a bit of cup to the blades. This additional cup will also decrease your RPM, the amount is dependant upon the amount of cup added. Please feel free to call me if I can be of assistance.

Safe Boating!
