articfriends: It's not the size of the intercooler, it's the restrictions in the air pathway before and after, and the balance of air flow across the intercooler core, that make the difference. We recently sold two supercoolers to a guy with a twin engine boat this spring. He used them with single Nickerson carbs to replace the 504 intercoolers and the dual carb boxes he had been running. He had never gone over 100 mph. Last time he called me he had gone 106.4 mph on GPS. Nothing else was changed. Im not dissing your setup, but reducing the restrictions in your intercooler setup is at least as beneficial as changing heads and easier.

Tomcat, thanks,i didn't want to even imply you were dissing my setup,i thought maybe you were comparing the aw504 intercooler procharger has with the smaller one that comes with the m-1. Does supercooler have a stand alone innercooler i can place between the blower and the efi plenum? I have also considered taking efi manifold off and going to a carb/airbox setup (i am a ase certified mechanic and i don't like being at the mercy of the few places in usa that can reprogram my efi and computer/injection system). What size carbs would you think on 540 up to 6000 rpm's w/boost? Procharger did tell me if i went to carbs, i could run more boost than with E.F.I,although i'm turning blower at it's max rpm rating already. Thanks,Smitty

tom i was in daves boat last week, that setup of yours is sick. the boat ran very well. i am helping him sort out a few very small issues not related to fuel or blower serup. we ran 103 plus a few times. your setup looks a+++++++++

Articfriends, Even though you are at the blowers max rpm if yhou go with tomcats setup you will pick up 2-4 pounds of boost due to the lower restriction. It will add 10-15% more HP/TQ all with the same heads and cam.

Re: how much power? 540/procharger8psi boost
not including the missing "b" side fuel numbers do my numbers look inline with other blown simmilar 540's? my exhauset temps ran 1400 on top. is that to high? i have inconal exhauset valves. i think having the timing at 30 may cause the exhaust temp a little higher then i would like. any input?

502- I think the numbers are pretty good. I would leave timming at 30 unless you are running race gas. What cam are you running. Of course you would have more HP if you had toms intercooler.

Smitty: I hear what you say about reprogramming stock ECUs. We have gone as high as 1000 HP with a single Nickerson carb. That was pretty well the limit for the blower. Nickerson thinks he can make a single carb move even more fuel for higher HP, but we haven't had the opportunity to try it yet. The Holley multipoint EFI setup would work well with our standard supercooler, but we are also installing the first supercoolers for the 502 MPI on a 35 Fountain. You need 6" above the intake plenum to fit this intercooler.

let me make sure I understand...
You're spinning a 540 at 5900 rpm with a 226/238 cam?
I believe I've found your problem. Your cam grind will likely show a power peak of 5250 rpm on a 502 and maybe a touch over 5000 on a 540. Your dyno sheets may show power increasing to the top of the rpm pulled, but that is because a centrif charger makes more boost the harder you spin it.
Either prop for 5200 rpm or cam for 5700 rpm. Your choice. Either should give you more speed.
I, like others, think you are at the absolute ceiling for your Merc EFI setup.
