Question altenator 1 wire or 3??

Ok I'm sure this is stupid and I'm just missing something but my alternator has just two wires on it. One is red the other is purple. It is on a mercruiser 454/330 v-belts. Do I purchase a 1 wire or a 3 wire ?

I suspect you've got another red wire crossed to the + red output wire and it's actually a 3 wire.
Get a one wire. Just hook the 8g red to the + post. Tape off that purple wire. It goes to the keyed ignition circuit.
