Re: Fresh Water Cooling ?
I have had closed coolong on my 454 magnum since it was new. I run only in salt water. I have never had a problem with it. I see no dissadvantages with it at all. The motor never runs hot. I just wish the manifolds didn't have to have salt in them..

All the time, up to 1400 HP. As of right now that is not the kind of work we do any longer, but that might change in the next year or so. See www.go-fast.com

Re: Fresh Water Cooling ?
I have had to go through my sbc twice on my boat. The last time I went full fresh water cooling. It takes me too long and cost me too much to fill my small block with salt water. Your motor has to be worth far more than my small block so I would consider it cheap insurance.
You need a clean new engine or else it may not work. I have an aluminum intake and water pressure problems so closed cooling fixed both those problems. I feel I get more even cooling and more time before my engine goes hot with fresh water cooling.
I like the fact that I have anti-freeze not salt water in the cooling jackets of my motor. I think it is an all around better system.

Re: Fresh Water Cooling ?Whats in a name?
If engines were made to cool and run on salt water, the factories would deliver new cars with salt water in the cooling systems. Its cheaper than coolant and a readily available.!!
