I hate to admit it but I have assembled the hole bottom end(PAN) and forgot to put the shaft in.I think more people have done this than care to admit.Pull the pan and do it right.Heavy duty sleeve versus plastic sleeve,Ive used both and not had a failure either way.

Well..... it can walk when cold if you're using an HV pump. Will it jump out of place if it wern't there?? Uhhhh I don't know but I wouldn't want to try it. In fact I have always replaced with the steel one because I really need the peace of mind.
