Default Gear Lube Leak on Newly Installed TRS drives

Just installed pari of "new" TRW drives on "new" transom assembly's. Both drives are leaking oil...

Mechanic new thinks it's the check valve and/or o-ring where drive attaches to transom assembly.

Anyone else have this issue on first install? Anything else to look at? Drives are recently rebuilt and not leaking until intalled on boat.

Thanks

Poorsche

Most likely you bent the lip of the oil seal for the drive reservoir. This is very common installing TRS drives.

Even if you install new seals it's a good idea to put a bead of permatex on both sides of the gasket before installing the drives.

Most likely it's the oil seal where the drive meets the check valve. those things are very tempermental its a cheap fix but its always a pita to get to drive back on.

Sounds like the bellhousing oil seal, merc part is only single lip, try tcm # 18x35x7tc, its double lip, but I cant find them any more, and I have used all but a few, anyone know where you can get em, I tried auto parts store but no luck.

Try an auto parts store with this number: National NAK 18x35x7 type TC. The merc # is 26-46443.

Found the seals at Florida Bearings Inc-- www.floridabearings.com -- they were in stock and price was $6.67 each.

They are sure much more substantial than the "quad rings" supplied by Mercruiser--now I hope they fit--
