I feel the need for a infrared thermometer
Is a raytek any good for the boat and cooking hamburgers? What d:s would you recommend? Is there a better brand? Is a MT4 ok or go with a raynger st20 or better? Extech, Sears or radio shack any better?
I would like to shoot some temps around the boat motor and monitor the boat trailer wheel bearings. Can you tell by temp before the wheel bearings go bad on your boat trailer?
Thanks

The Raytek is a nice unit, most of the internals on all of them are the same and they all work pretty well for what you are trying to do. I like the laser pointer ones for ease of use, well worth the extra cost.

I agree, I have a raytech with laser pointer and they work very well for the things your trying to do. Great for isolating fouled plugs and cooking hamburgers!! Better than a grease pencil anyway.

You have to realize that distance to the target and color of that target, etc will affect the reading. I saw 250 on my oil temp gauge and the gun showed me about 200 on the lines going in and out of the filter, where the gauge sensor is mounted. I ened up pointing it at fittings in the lines that were all the same color, shape and material. That told me what I needed to know. And I solved my problem.. gauge reads 220* most of the time while running hard..
The gun had an laser pointer, not sure what brand, but it did help me diagnose the problem..
