Merc #1 and Alpha Drives

What is the strength difference between the two? Are the gimble housing and bell housing the same? In other words, can you put a Alpha unit where a #1 was without changing the bell and gimble housings if the Alpha was stronger?

Re: Merc #1 and Alpha Drives

yes the #1 can be replaced with a alpha 1,there all strong though if built correctly and operated correctly!the gimbal housing should be checked for up and down and in and out play wear though to insure proper stability for the drive shaft alighnment!
