Redline Heavy Shockproof, 8 years, Bravo Drives, 600 hp each motor, 41' boat, big NJ water, no broken drives. What else really matters?

It would be nice to have more info on every product out there and a lot of info is from individuals who submitted samples and paid for testing on bob's site. The folks at Bob's site do this a lot. The vast majority of comments on Bob's site seem to be more focused to oils than gear lubes. When it comes to gear lubes Royal Purple @ GL-5, Redline @ GL-6 and Mobil @ GL-5+ are all good as is the Amsoil GL-5 product.

I like Mobil because it's easy to get. RP;Redline and Mobil-1 are available only in 75W. Amsoil offers a GL-5 80W. All are fine as the difference between 75W and 80W is only 6% and all are rated 90 at the top end. The GL ratings mean more than anything.

You simply can not ignore the fact that Mobil-1 exceeds GL-5 and Redline is GL-6. Redline would be one product worth ordering in as you only need a small amount per season if you decide to go with it.

Another drive oil question can you run them to cool. I have an Alpha drive with 300 HP (not quite the HP most of you deal with) and a halo type drive shower. If I go with synthetic oil could it run to cool?

Synthetics will flow better than conventionals at cooler temps. you will be fine.
