Well I do realize this is a old thread, but I figured I'd post anyway...I had a 95 272 w/502MAG and ran several props on it trying to get the best speeds out of it. With a 1/2 tank gas and 1 adult with a labbed 24p Bravo on it I saw 67mph GPS. This was in light chop and trimmed out all the way. I tried a 25p Mirage Plus on it as well and it blew out all the time. Definately the 22p Bravo is too small of wheel for it I tagged the rev limiter all the time was a good prop for pulling up skiers though. The 23 Mirage Plus was the factory prop, but I didn't like it as it didn't carry the stern well. So IMO for what its worth the 275 with 496HO would be best suited with a labbed 24p Bravo on it. JMO

Removing the hook is nothing $$$ won't fix. Beware of that the trade off is generally porpoiseing in the mid-range. The reason the manufacturer puts hook in the hull is an attempt to get a consistent smooth ride at most/all speeds. This can be managed by tucking in the drives or using the tabs. You can generally get a mild bottom tune-up/straightening for $500-$2000 depending on the hull.
If you believe the $3,000 per MPH, I think it is conservative, straightening the bottom can be very cost effective.
