Default Endplay in an Alpha drive prop shaft

I was out in the river with a friend's brand new bowrider the other night. First time out we hit something and sheared two blades clean off at the hub. Replaced the prop but there seems to be 1/8 to 1/4 of endplay front to back in the prop shaft. Seems like something else is wrong but not being familiar with Alpha drives I figured i'd ask.

Thanks
Bill
