Have Twins And Ya Loose One ?

Ya have a 29ft boat with twin small blocks and ya loose a motor due to failure of some sort. If the boat will come on plane with 1 motor is that the right way or do you slowly limp back ? And if it will come up on plane how far do you trim up non running outdrive ? INQUIRING MINDS WANNA KNOW ?

Re: Have Twins And Ya Loose One ?

I lost one in my 30 Victory awhile back and no matter how hard I tried, it wouldn't come on plane so I limped it. Problem was that the one prop cavitated just before it rotated and lost all forward momentum.

I like when you are flying under a bridge and have one run out of gas. Its a rush. I am glad I went swimming before, I had an excuse for the wet shorts.

Re: Have Twins And Ya Loose One ?

Don't think you could ever plane with one and couldn't get the dead one trimed out enough to get out of the drag. I got 2 -450 HP 454s in a 29' fountain and nailed it once when my last one blew up and it wasn't even close to planeing. I think the drag of the dead one is the killer. Maybe with no prop? But I still don't think so.

Re: Have Twins And Ya Loose One ?

If someone has a twin that will get up with only one motor let us know- That hull will be on top of my list when I finally get to upgrade from my single sled...

In most cases you will be well over propped to get on plane with one engine.
I've done it with my Formula , but only doing it a$$ backward. I got up on plane with two engines and killed one. The other could maintain it but come down off plane and thats it.
If you could change to a prop 2 or 3 pitch's smaller it would probably work

Re: Have Twins And Ya Loose One ?

I would just guess that getting on plane would be a lot tougher than staying there but might be a few that can do it. I have only tried it on a boat with outboards and was a no go... heck with my luck the other motor would probably grenade from the load on the way back.

That was my point ...carry a spare......that is pitched to run one motor on Plane ...I spun a hub this summer and it dropped like a rock though ...knew something was wrong so I backed off . didn't try to maintain speed ....Also I guess one spare would work ? ....Counter rotating drives ...just put it in reverse ? I think it would work on Bravos ....
