Question MerCruiser Rev Limiter?

Is there a way to bypass the factory rev limiter on a 98 mercruiser 5.7, up to and including a new ignition box. If it requires a aftermarket box which would you use?

Well here I go again. I usually get spanked when I answer this but I changed over to MSD complete system for the same reason. There are other threads that cover the MANY choices for this. GOOD LUCK. I'm going to set back and wait for the MSD bombs to hit this thread.

I use the Crane Hi-6m. Works great, has timing curve and limiter built right in. Either Crane or MSD. Your choice!

There is no reason to change the rev limiter on a stock 5.7

It is making the most power/torque at the top of the recommended WOT range. After that, torque falls off a lot.

The best thing to do is prop the boat to run just short of hitting the limiter.

The best solution is to get a bigger prop or have yours reworked.
