Stainless Prop Cleaning
Just Finished A Week Of Boating In Lake Havasu!my Stainless Hardwear Now Has A Hard Whit Flakey Film On It That Only Seems To Scrape Off!everything From The Props To The Hydrolic Stearing!does Any Body Have A Good Way Of Cleaning And Preventing This?or Is This Just A Normal Freshwater Thing?

Same thing happens at Lake Mead. i use Lime away the minute I get out of the water. Then rinse off with fresh water. The prop is harder to clean for some reason.

Plain old vinigar from the store. Get a gallon jug & a spray bottle. Go around the boat with spray bottle. Wait a little while & then go back & wipe clean. Cleans everthing included the exhaust

The deposit is more likely to be lime than any other mineral. Once you spray you should rinse asap. If it builds up on the hull to any degree it will appear yellow. There is also a cleaner called "ZING" which is actually an acid. Use this on the hull and rinse immediatley. DO NOT use on stainless.

One of the boat shops here used to stock it. When they quit stocking it, my buddy called them and they sold him a case of it, but they normally want you to buy from a dealer.
The lake that I go to has alot of particles in the water and if it drys, CLR won't hardly touch it and requires a lot of elbow grease. Most of us here use this stuff and it works better that I can even tell you about.
Spray this on, and the white buildup on the prop and out drive literally runs off. Absolutely no scrubbing. We just got back from Havasu a week ago and sprayed this on. Let it sit for about 1 minute and rinse off, and the prop and hardware looks like you just pulled it out of the box. You will not be disappointed in the results.

I had the same problem with my prop early in the season. I used PB Blaster and an old toothbrush to clean off the deposits. Washed with soap and water, then applied a thin coat of Boat Shield to it. Never had the problem the rest of the season.
