Re: Hustler 500efi engine tear down & Build Up

Oil system

The oil pan, Its a Keith Eichert and the fel Pro one piece oil pan gasket needs to be trimmed . the rear main seal area is to wide . you have to cut the lips off the gasket for it to lay flat against the oil pan rail. I haven't heard anybody else having this prob. is it just me? This is the style gasket that came on it .It was trimed also

Re: Hustler 500efi engine tear down & Build Up

Heres where I mounted my fuel pump and filter. I used the 500efi bracket cut it down turned it around . It is flush with the oil pan. so if U set it on the ground it would sit level. On the engine cradle the oil pan is about 2 inches off the ground . this makes the fuel pump easy to get to . mounted low so it doesn't have to suck so hard .As ya see no fuel cooler

I change the fittings in the Hustler tank they used hardware store style pluming pipe, but it was brass. At least it was 1/2 pipe I changed it all out to Earls fittings and high flow hose ends , all # 10 to the filter to the pump and up to the fuel rail.

The Whipple kit came with a new wiring harness for the fuel pump with a relay and fuse holder al water proof. This was a very high quality piece , good wires and it was long enough too.I mounted the relay on the bracket by the merc engine harness plug,Like it was made to go there.

Re: Hustler 500efi engine tear down & Build Up

The back side looks like shet . I ran out of time this was 3 weeks before a poker run and still had to go to the dyno. i need to shorten some wire this winter, try to clean it up some .

Starter side ,I wish Whipple made a molded hose for this side .It shure would be better.

bout ready for the dyno

Re: Hustler 500efi engine tear down & Build Up

Here is how I mounted the Fuel regulator/bypass.I figured this would be better than mounting it to the blower like some Ive seen A cleaner install!! It has a #10 union 90 high flow with 2 females on it. The union is the inlet. In the bottom is a #6 that returns back to the tank . No need for a fuel cooler, Its not dead heading heating the fuel and it goes back to the tank NOT the fuel filter. The vac line is boost refanced .It goes up about 10 psi under boost. On the other side it has the fuel pressure port.I wish someone made a decent electric fuel pressure gage for the boats

Re: Hustler 500efi engine tear down & Build Up

Done .I was ready to go Dyno them , See if we could go blow these hand grenades up .

At this point Mark at Precision Marine was waiting on me , He said wear your rubber boots just encase. He also said if it blows I have to clean it up

Ck out my straps I made . They want scratch anything . like ya see most shops use chains that will scratch the blower and dig into the valve covers. These are just regular old truck 10k yellow tie down straps . like ya use on car ratchet tie downs. I took the flat style hook like they use on 18wheelers and cut the hook part off and drilled a hole for the bolt that bolts to the heads .The rear of the motor is heaver ,so that strap is shorter to keep it level.
