Default Repowering '85 Cig 20, will I have enough space to fit a 377 scorpion?

I know that most 20's were powered with 454 big blocks but mine had the 350 sbc package. I'd like to repower with a merc 377 scorpion but wonder about the scorpion's length of 37 inches. That would be 2 inches longer than a 496 magnum. Can anybody help me out? Right now with with the 350 installed there is about 6 inches between the front of the furthestmost pulley and the engine compartment wall behind the back seat.

My engine compartment is 44 inches long from transom to firewall.

Here are the dimensions of the various motors

L/W/H
350 SBC 32/30/22
496 35/33/24
377 Scorp 37/29/20
6.2 mx 32/30/22

I really want to go with a 377 scorpion if possible. Thanks for any help

Jim

If anything the Scorpion should be shorter due to the serpentine pulley. A drawing of the 6.2 is attached. The block itself is exactly the same dimension as your 350.

I was thinking that the 377 should be the same if not shorter than the 6.2mx....
I think the 6.2 has serpentine drive too, so it should be the exact same as 377.

the 1075sci is only 55"....

Marc, Here is the link to Merc's website specifically for the 377 scorpion. Is it an error or is there something to this? Thx

why not build a small block and swap over all your access.? you can build a 406ci small block for 2k that will make gobs o torque and rev as hard as you want to and stay together. a 406 uses a 3.75 stroke crank. you can buy a cast steel 5140 scat crank, recond. 5.7 rors with arp bolts from summit for about 150.00 a complete roller valve train from doug herbet, and a set of speedpro/trw pistons for a few hundred bucks. get a set of open chamber 882 heads and your making some awsome hp and torque for cheap. just my .02 you can buy a lotta gas and beer with the coin you save ratman
