Ok now that this subject is out o the way i have one more question. I have been looking at the AFR 305 with the machined combustion chamber and inconell valves. i can get the same head in raw aluminum(no hard coating or anodizing because i run fresh water) In a 315 CNC version. The CNC 315 dos e not come with exhaust valves or springs or keepers. and i can get it for the same price as the completed 305. I have a line on valves, ferrea, for 23.46 a piece that are super alloy and i would also need the springs. 140 on the seat 360 open and installed height of 1.9. are the 315's that much better? I have read the flow #'s and Hmmm I am still undecided I am looking at a target WOT at 5500-5700. The cam is .613 .629 and 112 lsa with .236 and .244 duration in a 4.351 x 4.25 stroke (4340 and H beams) i am starting to run out of money.... is the xtra couple hundred going to be worth it? ALL opinions welcome.

Regardless of what water you run in, there will be corrosion. Obviously more with salt than with fresh but for the cost of the anodizing how can you say no?
I sprung for the anodizing. My engine builder saw the anodizing for the first time as all the AFR's he has sold were of the raw aluminum variety. He said for now on that he will order the anodizing for all the marine powerplants he builds.

Also, what is the difference between the 1261 ferrea and a 2121 ferrea? The 2121 valve is the high end piece that is called for in offshore marine applications. It is also more expensive.

We are ordering all our AFR heads now with the hard anodizing for marine applications. It is certainly a cost effective upgrade considering the initial investment in the heads themselves. There are significant differences in flow numbers with AFRs depending upon the valve used on the exhaust side. In my opinion the 8* split is excessive for use with AFR heads. As for duration,where did you want to place your peak TQ/HP numbers?

One advantage of the 3/8 stem is its ability to dissipate more heat from the valve to the guide as a result of increased surface area.

OK one More question how much difference will it make if i take say 400 grit paper and wet sand the exhaust ports of my afr 315 heads? In the past on exhaust i have put a mirror finish on the exhaust ports. i have also noticed a few minor misalignments of the seats in the heads. should i smooth these out? I have included a pic and i know it is minor but i have a Little time to play before the rest of the parts get here. Will i get a cfm or two out of this fine tuning? Also should i have the Ferrea vales back cut? If so what degree would be the best. the exhaust valves that i have are the F1261p. they are clearly not as efficient as the intake valves that come from afr in there fully assembled heads. I bought the heads from a private party and he kept the exhaust valves and retainers. I have read several posts on the air flow right next to the surface of port. no one mentions putting a mirror finish on the ports. also i am thinking about taking all th the sharp edges off of the combustion chamber along with unshrouding the valves a bit.
