cost to replace a transom

A mechanic wants to start sending me fiberglass jobs and has one for me to do but I am not sure if my pricing is correct. He has a 1990 4winns bow rider that needs the transom replaced. He has already removed the engine and transom assembly and it is ready to be replaced. I am figuring $500.00 since I do not have to remove any hardware. Does this sound to high or to low or am I about right?

Are you using epoxy, vinylester, or polyester resin? What type of F-glass products? Real marine ply, or exterior grade ply? Is the transom competely bare, or are there still accesories mounted that you would have to remove yet? What hourly rate do you normally charge? If you are supplying materials and labor, the materials used could mean a small profit for you, or you actually losing $$$. I think your price is low, even if you were to use the lowest grade materials available. Just my opinion, of course.

I think you are a little cheap.A friend with a 35 Cig removed everything for the shop and he spent 3000 cash.

Seems like your giving him a great deal. I would charge more and see if you can do a cash deal. ($1850 cash) just my .02

$500.00 !!!!!!! I've got 4 boats here, stripped out, I'll put them on a truck to you for that price. That kind of job runs from $5-10k on the West Coast.

Sorry, I just re-read your post. Looks like you're job-shopping this work? It should be arounf $3-6K. Don't know how much stringer work you're going to have to do but on that boat I would imagine around $3k for the whole job.

I'm no expert in fiberglass repairs but I have busted plenty and I estimate field labor every day, ( steel erection ) I would listen to David and Lofty . If they don't want to spend that much, It should be the best job you Never got !!! My .02. Good luck!!

We have a guy up here that does transom repair for a sideline. His work is incredible. (He's a boat builder at Sabre Yachts) For a job like that he gets about a grand.
