Re: Whipple charger on 525EFI
Whosnext:
I'm seeing close to 70 with around 1/4 of a tank and two people. Spinning a 24 Bravo 4 blade. I have a 26 which I labbed and haven't tried it yet. Maybe this week. The Pantera carries a 140 gallon tank.
Monstaaa:
I'm sure once Mercury releases the rights i'd feel a lot better. In addition, I wonder if I got that SC5000 unit now, would I have to change it later?
It probably is a bit too early for a greenhorn to take the plunge and add a turbo to the package. I'm going to call some of the suggestions in this thread and get more feedback. I really appreciate everyone's help.
Thanks
Ron

Roughly $1000 new. I wouldn't let the overheating issue be a factor with your supercharger decision.
I am [hearing] there not running hot w/the stock heat exchangers.
I guess you could change the thermostat if they don't already do that or leave it out.And calibrate for it.
I am betting with the new 525 efi kit[screw size] with about 7 1/2 psi it will be around 800hp

Ron,
My suggestion to you for more power is to buy another new complete engine package. Then sell off your 525 or keep it as a spare.
The 525 is a great engine package left alone; to strip it down for just the long block sounds like a waist to me.
There are lots of N/A 540, 572, 598 cube engine packages that will make 650 to 750HP vary reliably.
Good Luck Ron!
Hey Ron,
By the way, we were still boating this past weekend up here in CT. 62° and Sunny on Sunday...
I winterized Sunday afternoon though; below freezing temps will be here by Thursday...
