Default Scrap $ Value of Stainless Steel

Hi, does anyone know what the dollar value per pound is on scrap stainless these days? I have about 100lbs worth of it in junked Patterson headers that I got ripped off on eBay.

oh man that sucks

are they weldable at all? if you can find a decent welder they might be able to fix em. I had a set of leaky stelligns fixxed. I biult a valve setup so i coudl hookup compressed air and avalve on the otehr to regulate how much pressure was in there so they coudl be lighlty pressurized when they welded them. They had this **** they sprayed on that bubbled up (no not soapey water) becasu eo fteh mild pressurization. Apparently if you are really anal about doing it right, instead of using compressed air you use an inert gas liek nitrogen or argon.

So far they have held up with no problems.

Puder:

I gave them to a local radiator/marine shop in town. At least that's what he calls himself. Claims they are leaking both internally and externally and that they are non-repairable. I haven't checked them out myself yet, I just might do that yet. It just scares me using a repaired header on a brand new motor If anyone else would like to take a shot with them, I'd let them go for what I've got into them, which is only about $1500 for both pairs, but who know's who'd want them.

my advoce go to home depot but some pipe fittings, rubebr tubing and pipe clamp. you can eitehr pressurize them and rig up a normal leakdown guage on one end or cap one end and dunk em in a garbage can full of water and look for bubbles.

Puder, I was being sarcastic about someone actually paying me for BAD headers . . . I am going to go after the guys that I bought them from. I am out about $500 per pair, plus shipping, plus the cost of having them pressure tested by that shop. Totals about $1500 when all is said and done.

Plus, I have a signed affadavit from the shop's owner stating they are unrepairable.

Scrap price for 316 stainless is .68 cents per lb.

Scrap price for 316L stainless is .98 cents per lb.

These are premium prices. Corner Scrap guy will prob give you 30 - 40 % less.

And These are prices for the Philadelphia area ( the closer to Pittsburg the more it is worth due to the mills being in Pittsburg ).
