?496 Mag Ho Or Hp 525 Efi?
Hi to all,
Iam going to buy new engines for my Cougar 38.
I have to decide beetween 2x496 Mag ho or 2x HP 525 Efi.
The Problem is that i dont belive in the live of the HP 525.
I need a every day engine, that holds lots of hours.
So i dont know what i should do, iam scary of the HP 525 because i dont want to have engines they live only 10 hours.
I definitively need a every day engine.
So what is better for me.
Kit1:
2x 496 Mag HO/ Xr Drives/ 5 blade Props
Kit2:
2x HP 525 EFI/ Xr drives/ 5 blade porps
Hope you will answer...

525's!
525's!
The 496 ho is a very dependable engine too with 100 less hp and better fuel economy.

nitro02- You might consider the 496 ho's and then add Raylar's bck 103 kit to them. Then you will have the performance and reliability of the 525's and still be money ahead. Check here: www.raylarengine.com

I have 525EFI with 200 hours and never had a problem or a rebuild. Never missed a day of boating because of the engines. Leak down tests indicate all is fine. Also, my engines dynoed out at almost 550 HP.
You won't regret the 525EFI's.

Hard to beat the 525EFI, but here is one way:
496HO and a visit to www.raylarengine.com
They can make 525+ HP out of a 496HO, and reliable, for much cheaper than a 525EFI from Mercury.
(thanks for the link correction)
