I had the same idea, but could not find any large enough. Sure would make things easier.

I don't know about easier, but I'd be willing to bet it would be EXPENSIVE. Probably be quite heavy too even if thin. Plexiglass ain't lite either. Can't win...

milled SS sheets come in 4x8ft
22awg is 1.22lbs per sq ft. / its 3/32"
I've got a customer w/a plasma cutter that can get it and cut it for me.
All i'd have to do is polish it, or get my local powdercoater/metal fab shop to do it for me.

I've heard Nortech is doing it now, and its really trick looking.

It would work .The weight would not be much different . The polished stainless is not as sharp [reflective] as the plexi mirror.I bet it would be expensive

You can buy the stainless already polished .

I did a plate on the firewall on my Chevelle and made a cover for the AC compressor. It made a bunch of difference !!

Maybe you can see it in this pick

Unless you have done this you can't imagine the number of problems that can come up with.

1. The plastic can easily scratch.
2. If you use screws to hold it up, the mirror distorts, so I made an AL frame to fit around the mirror. (A lot of work)
3.You need to glue or silicone the mirror up in the middle if you don't screw it.
4. If you glue or silicone it up you should take the hatch off.
5. Engine heat can distort it or worse melt it on the engine.

Stainless mirror if cut to size can just be screwed around the edge and your done.

On my Scarab the mirror was real close to the headers and did not warp or dis color. It would even touch when more than 3 people where on the sun pad standing.. I did not glue it either just put a backing on it because like a Glass mirror it has a silver paint type backing to make it a mirror.Pick above . the screws do make it look warped . needs a frame to look the best ,But hard to do sometimes and could not be done on a hustler.

St your are right about scratching and I did crack 2, one from jumping on the hatch and the other was the screw.

My firewall on the Chevelle does tarnish[stain or get alittle cloudy] a little and will distort from the screws .its thin when it comes already polished .

My buddy owned a sheet metal shop that did a building entrance all polished stainless .They called it Mirror lake plaza ..the hole front of the building was and is mirror there was alot of left over scraps . When the shop changed buildings the scraped all the droppings . I cried like a bit*ch you could not imagine what they thru away.he did not call me There was dumpsterSSSS full of stainless ,aluminum.that was 5 year ago and I am getting upset again bring it up

Rob

The hatch mirror was about $80 cut out on the Scarab.

Black ? You mean tinted or smoked?
