Re: Head gaskets--Fel-Pro or Cometic
Fel pro makes 2 of the BBC metal head gaskets . the 1075 and I use the 1075-1 its for the thicker with a volume of 14.6. Ck out my thread on the Hustler build up there are some picks of them there . I have no experience with the cometic . I have heard good things .If I did not get the Fel Pro stuff for free I might? of tried the cometic's.
As far as the loc wire gaskets . Nobody really uses or needs to use them anymore just ask Fel pro teck .!800-325-8886.The MLS has been in there line for awhile and they said Nascar has been using them over the lock wire .They even sent me a set to try in the late 80's and I never did.
My connection with Fel Pro is when they came out with the Loc Wire I was doing some R&D with them on some NOS motors. I would run them and send them back for them to look at . They where tuff I never blew one, but hurt alot of parts though FelPro says the MLS is stronger than there lock wire gaskets.
Ck out the directions on the box ,They don't even want finger prints on the gasket surface . There is a sticky coating that attracts everything. They want a ra of 40-50. thats smooth
For the gen 6 stuff
They offer a top end kit 17207 comes with a 17048 head gasket for a bore up to 4.550.
The bottom end kit is a 17146 and come with the good one piece oil pan gasket.
The MLS 1075 is a .041 thick with a 4.580 bore
the 1075-1 is a .053 thick with a 4.580 bore
The new small block chevy stuff is a
1142 .041 thick with a 4.100 bore
1143 .041 thick with a 4.165 bore
1144 .041 thick with a 4.200 bore
Hope this helps
