shorepower install question
Installing shorepower now and ready to drill for the inlet connector. The most convienent location is somewhat near the fuel fill, a couple feet at most. Is there a CG rule about min. distance between the inlet and the fuel fill?

Unless the gas stations/docks have shorepower by the pumps, or the marina runs a fuel line out to my slip, I think I should be alright then. It was the vent tube I thought might be the issue. But this is the best spot mount the inlet connection.

What is the best tool for cutting holes through the fiberglass? Hole saw? Rotozip? I'm going to be doing some installs in the future and have never done anything larger than regular drill bit size. When I have drilled holes, I've always used a heavy gauge tape over the area to avoid the glass from chipping up. What's the right way of doing this?

Don't forget to install a 30 amp single pole breaker fairly close to your 30 amp power inlet and before a charger or any other devices. You will appreciate an indicator light on your breaker panel indicating power present and I also use a correct wiring indicator. Some marinas I've overnighted at had 120VAC hot on the white and thus you have inadequate circuit breaker protection on your shore power. I keep a short "turnaround" adapter onboard for those instances. I would only use marine grade "tinned" wire. Non marine grade wire will deteriorate substantially quicker than marine grade. Unfortunately it's more expensive. Of course, it's a boat ! Good luck.

I'll throw in my advisory -- install a GALVONIC ISOLATOR in the circuit immediatley after shorepower plug.
My marina got trashed by hurricanes and so far many of the electrical pedastels have reverse polarity problems and at least half of them ahve only 50 amp connectors--make sure you include a revers polarity indicator in circuit and add a few adapters to your shorepower supply bag.
Adapters like 30/50 amp convert, 20/30 amp at a minimum.
My marina got trashed by hurricanes and so far many of the electrical pedastels have reverse polarity problems and at least half of them ahve only 50 amp connectors--make sure you include a revers polarity indicator in circuit and add a few adapters to your shorepower supply bag.
Adapters like 30/50 amp convert, 20/30 amp at a minimum.

Project is finished!
A standard Bi-Metal hole saw did just fine. Just used ever so slightly pressure until the teeth cut thru the gel. No a single chip. Tape was used too.
Paneltronics AC Panel has a 120V AC meter, 30amp double pole main breaker, reverse polarity feature, 3) 15amp circut breakers, power indicators lights. Made up a 15 amp-30 amp adapter to plug in while at home in the garage. Works great!
Can someone clarify this clause from my instructions?
" THE REVERSE POLARITY FUNCTION REQUIRES GROUND WIRE INTEGRITY BETWEEN SHIP AND SHORE PER ABYC E8.10 Note 1(K-5 back-up fuse required)
Does this just reiterate the use of the ground wire?
And the backup fuse....only actual fuse on my panel is inline of the reverse polarity indicator light lead going to the ground bus bar. Is that the fuse in reference?
