Default Can I use a tall oil filter on a 502 Mag MPI?

I remember a thread somewhere about making a change to the remote oil filter setup to use a tall filter (M1 302). Who has done it, and what's involved? Thanks...

I think the logic of going to a bigger filter from stock had merit until I found the flow and trapping ability of the smaller Mobil-1 filter to be quite good. One concern in moving up to a bigger filter is the spring rates can be different. Maybe ?? Maybe not? who knows. I just think it's a lot to go through for a non-hopped up engine. Move up to a Mobil-1 filter and save your money for beer is my personal feeling and it's just a feeling..

I'm definitely putting a Mobil 1 in; I'd just rather use one with a bigger surface area. I use Mobil 1 filters in all my vehicles, and it's amazing how much cleaner the oil stays between changes.

Is it that hard to move/change the mounting? The boat's not close to me right now so I can't go look....

I put one on a motor once and the added weight broke the bracket.

I have been using the larger filter for years.

More surface to catch contaminates. If it's mounted upside down be sure and get the ones with an anti-syphon valve so that the oil doesn't drain back in the pan when shut down (dry starts). Then when changing, just punch a hole in the top to drain, and screw off.

Fram HP4 works and AC PF35 also.

So there's no way to fab a new bracket or move the existing one somewhere close where there's no interference?

BTW, I have a car that has the filter mounted upside down, and while it hasn't had an issue with drainback it still bothers me to mount it upside down.

The Mobil 1 M1-302 will definitely not fit the 454/502 Mag with the remote filter mounted on the exhaust, unless late model enough to be upside down. Which Mobil 1 filter will fit? Which Mobil 1 filter is the same as the M1-302 but shorter?

Thanks
