Where to watch the Key West race? How to get pit passes?
I'm a navy flight instructor and I'm planning to fly a student down to Key West in November for the world championship offshore race. I haven't seen a live race since I was 16, so I'm really excited about it, that was when Team Gentry and Popeye's were going at it.
Where's a good place to watch the race from? How do I get pit passes? The apba website doesn't have any spectator info.

Zimm,
You mean you're conducting a cross-country training flight and will happen to be in KW the week of the race.
The Outer Mole at Truman Annex is the place to watch the race. You should be able to get passes at the gate, but I don't know at what price. Like Frank says, call the SBI office for details.
Stop in and see us if ya get a chance.
Your USAF brother,
Sean

Since he is with the Navy, perhaps he can get a PBY-2 Catalina and watch the race along with the spectator fleet.
Just kiddin.. from an EX USAF man.

Thanks for the replies:
What's the "outer mole"? Is this the same Trumann annex that's part of the navy base? If so, I bet I can get a room there since the BOQ overflow is there.
Yes, cross country flight. We're not allowed to pick a destination where there is a "major sporting event". I'm going to enjoy the water and maybe catch a boat race.
Too bad I can't bring a PBY down there, just a little T-34 turbo-weeny.
