Factory 1, Key West, Who will win? Who will finish?
Key West has me looking over this year’s rough water race results. F1-10 TKO Al Culberson and Walter Collins have to be congratulated! You guys have set the bar high. Al is always in the engine hatch before the races and his attention to the details has really paid off. TKO finished all rough water races without a single mechanical failure! (Now if he could keep his drive together on flat water )
The rough water took its toll on our equipment, as well as the other Factory 1 teams. I looked at some of the rougher races; Miami, Ft. Lauderdale (2 Starts), Sarasota, Dania Beach and Deerfield Beach. I was thinking that these races would be most similar to what Key West will offer. Here’s how it breaks down:
F1-10 TKO Al Culberson/Walter Collins
Finished All Races 1st Place (6 Starts)
Average Rough Water Speed: 53.45 MPH
F1-11 AMF/LaveyCraft: Brian Devlin/Chance Silva
Finished 2 of 5 starts (3 DNF)
Average Rough Water Speed: 48.38 MPH
F1-12 Venom/Team Extreme: Frank Sarro*/Scott O’ Conner
Finished 1 of 4 starts (2 DNF, 1 DNS)
Average Rough Water Speed: 41.86 MPH
F1-7 Team Extreme: Frank Sarro*/Dave Warden
Finished 0 for 1 (DNS – Mechanical Problem)
Average Rough Water Speed: ???
It’s obvious that TKO is the team to beat in rough water. We can’t work fast enough to get the boat back together and get out testing. Al, Walter you know we’re gunning for you!
We wish all our competitors good luck in Key West, you’re going to need it!

BRIAN, it's great to hear from you, didn't want to bother you while you were getting the old girl back into fighting shape!!!We have been very lucky this season with part failure, but i guess everything has a "pull date". If KEY WEST is like years past, luck will play a big part of keeping these little boats together for 3 days of racing. This has been a long but great season can't wait for one more east coast v.s. west coast battle.

TKO is a tough boat to run with especially if it is rough but I am going to go with LaveyCraft for this year. Don't let me down Brian. Either way best wishes and safe racing to all F1 teams this year.

I have a feeling its going to be a close race...
Is Volocity VR1 going to be there...if so that is another boat to watch out for, Bob and Steve are compediters also. ...of course I am partal to the old Activator and seeing it win its 3 World Championship....but that is going to be a close run...
Looking forward to seeing that race....

I have not heard from Steve or Bob, Velocity VR1, but I think that Reggieville was their last race unless they got a new boat or serious bottom repair.
It would be great to have both Velocity teams at the race.
We are still working very hard to get our boat right. Hope to finish-up before before we have to hit the road.

TKO is always on the top of their game and a ruff team to beat. KW will not be about speed, the course is always changing with different conditions. Set-up is going to make the difference, who ever handles better will be out front.
Al I won't make the same mistake twice, and let you get so far in front. Doing that is suicide you guys are way to good, and don't make any mistakes.

Its hard not to let them get so far out front when they are running 10 mph+ faster average lap speeds. Set up will be critical, but so will being able to hold that throttle down when the water gets rough.
They also have a proven set up that has not been prone to failure. Time to start the 12 oz curls to get my throttle arm in shape.

They're all fast in the flat water! Who's going to stay in the throttle and who's going lift when the ripples turn to nasty swells and chop? I know Walter in TKO won't lift, thats why were gunning for them!
