Re: SOB class.
Mike,
We tried to accomodate the SOBs over the last two years in one of two ways.
1. If enough show up, they can have thier own race with no breakout speed. These boats claim to run up to 90mph+ in the right conditions and they don't really want to race against offshore style boats. How many is enough???? Probably 5 or more. Will they get to share the purse? Ask Smitty.
2. If less than 5 show up, they can race in P5 or P4 depending up how fast they can run, just like any other boat. In this case, they would share the purse just like any other P5 or P4 boat.
So far, one SOB showed in Cambridge and two showed up in Camden. Both times they ran in P5 and didn't run up front. Lets see who shows up this year. Are you building one?

RACE BOATS
|
Re: SOB class.
I have video of the 2 guys that showed up in Camden. Its true they didn't win but from the video no one had more fun then them! They may be capable of 90 plus but not if they get in the wash of the other boats. They are a case of a boat being able to do 90 but belong in P5. Its the same as a 28 Skater thats capable of 110 and is supposed to run in P2. Some boats should have there own class, but if there is not enough of them they have to race where the rules put them.
Come on you SOB's you are the best to watch!!!

Re: SOB class.
i have an action marine which i might be selling but i'm in market for a 24 ft monza/ pantera/ manta and i was thinking if there was going to be a sob class i would rigg it with an outboard when i finally find the boat i want. but if the speeds are going to be unlimited on the sob then the kind of boat i'm looking for won't kleep up with those that where at camden this past year. my action would keep up with them any day but i want to step up to an offshore boat. i thought the sob class was going to be like it use to be in the early 90's and early-late 80's which was like 22 -24 ft offshore boat not lake and river boats. thanks for clearing it up for me Ron

Re: SOB class.
How cool is this??? This is the SOB class overseas. All with either 150 or 225 Honda four stroke engines. One hull for each engine. Plus they look like they belong in the ocean.

Re: SOB class.
Would be really kool to get one of those over here. Ron any idea what the change over from European moey to Amreican money is??? On the one website I visited you could get one of those ready to go for just over 20,000. European currency. Maybe Tom Abrams could find out being Steve Curtis's company builds them.

Re: SOB class.
Wonder what it would cost to get them shipped here. That would probably be the best format to get into the SOB class. Don't you think.

Re: SOB class.
Recently while in Ireland, Honda had a real cool commercial showing this type of boat, pretty cool stuff.
