Default Looking into building a “Class 5 Race Boat” – Couple Questions

Ok, If I see the Scarab I’ll build a race boat, and If racing is not my thing I’ll still have a pretty cool weekend speedster. and if anyone is interested I’ll sell my 29 Scarab 10K under NADA value to a OSO/OPA member. But back to the question

What would be a good 28 Single to start with? Should I go with a 26/28 Cat? Just looking at options plus I’m board at work today.

I recall someone saying build the boat to do 80 than prop it down so you put less stress on the equipment, dos that sound right? I would think a single 26 Redline Cat would be a great Class 5 boat – But like I said, I’m just looking into suggestions (and I’m board at work)

Rick, remember that everyone can run the 75mph exactly so what is more important is accelleration and cornering. Our bat boat is very competitive for this reason running only 340hp. All the cats in OPA I belive are running Class 3 or up. There may be one in Class 4

The acceleration and cornering are what will win races in class 5, that I agree with 100% but if I’m looking (Key word is looking) Into build a class 5 boat what hull would be a good start? I know I can make my twin engine scarab a great class 5 boat, 75mph No problem and Acceleration would be pretty good with two drives digging in the water. But the maintenance on a twin-engine boat could kill me over a year. So a big HP single would be the way to go, But what hull??
