EVANSVILLE, Ind. - It was a showcase of competition and parity in the Unlimited Hydroplane ranks this year at Evansville.
Leading up to the winner-take-all final, six different drivers and teams had won six heat races.
THUNDER ON THE OHIO - FINAL
U-37 Beacon Plumbing (Jean Theoret)
U-6 Oh Boy! Oberto / Miss Madison (Steve David)
U-7 FormulaBoats.com (Mike Allen)
U-5 FormulaBoats.com (Jeff Bernard)
U-10 Ahern Rentals (David Bryant)
U-50 Spirit of the Navy (Brian Perkins)
U-13 Graham Trucking (J. Michael Kelly)
DNF / STARTED AS TRAILER
Mike Allen in the U-7 nailed the start, but lost some speed going into the first corner and when they hit the exit pin of the first turn, it was Jean Theoret in the U-37. Theoret and Steve David in the U-6 were neck and neck and both boats were bouncing on the back stretch.
Theoret held on for there, despite flying the boat again a bit in the second lap, holding off Steve David to win Thunder on the Ohio for 2008. "I got a great start," said Theoret, holding off the field for the win.
"The boat ran phenomenal against the 6 fastest boats in the world," said Steve David, finishing second.

Shocker! U-1 Elam Plus announces it's not going to Evansville, Madison or Detroit!
Updated: June 19, 2008 09:35 AM PDT
But maybe there's a bigger plan in place. "We have an opportunity, if we play our cards right, and diligently work out all the details, to have a seasonal circuit that will race in foreign lands. Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Monte Carlo, Oman, Muscat, England and several other wonderful locations are working with us to fashion an actual race circuit that would begin in late November and conclude in early January each year," said team owner Erick Ellstrom in a prepared statement.
Not a bad reason not to show up.
